Why We Ride

Why We Ride

I plan on adding links to movies, documentaries, books, and short videos on why those who choose to ride motorcycles, travel, and go off-road enjoy doing what we do.  These references I have watched or read myself and I think are informative and motivational.  I will be adding and commenting when time permits.  I have so much I want add to this it may be overwhelming by the time I am finished.

Not Dead Yet & That I May Die Roaming by Oisin Hughes

This one is one is like a diamond in the rough.  You may have heard of the Long Way Round LWR and Long Way Down LWD, but Oisin Hughes' free and amazingly edited series puts in you in seat of the Irish Motorcyclist Oisin Hughes.  Oisin gives you a very unplugged and raw version of his worldly travels with his unique sense of humor, emotional cycles, and life's challenges.  Just watch the first couple episodes, you'll either be hooked or you won't be at all.

A little bit about the author from Amazon:

In 2008 the author, Oisin Hughes rode his motorcycle down the Pan American Highway and wrote a book about his experiences. That book was called “That I may Die Roaming”. Not satisfied, and in an attempt to kill off the traveling bug once and for all, he decided to ride Dublin to New York heading east, which was preceded by another Pan American Road trip taking a different route.  His Journey took him through 27 countries on yet another trip of a lifetime. The book details his attempt to make a documentary about the experience with a friend, that projects ultimate failure, and his continuing on through the final 22 countries alone. Along the way he completes some of the worlds most infamous roads including all of the Ruta 40 in Argentina and the Road of Bones in Far Eastern Russia.

Into the Dust - Larry Janesky

Larry Janesky is a motivational speaker, entrepreneurship consultant, and has written several books.  He founded Team Janesky and accepted the challenge of the Baja 1000.  The Baja 1000 or also know as the Mexican 1000 Rally is an approximate 800 miles off-road rally race that starts in Ensenada, Mexico and ends in La Paz, Mexico which approximately 800 miles and sometimes a loop race starting and ending in Ensenada which varies from 600-800 miles long.  Various vehicle classes are permitted  such as small and large bore motorcycles, buggies, trucks, and custom fabrications.  Larry and his son accept the guidance of veteran rider and racer Chris Haines of Chris Haines Motorcycle Adventure Company.  If you are into light and mid-weight fast off-road motorcycles blazing through the desert with intense competition, I highly recommend this as a watch.  It reminded me very much of the Dakar Race.  Well worth your time, I promise.
